publishing. There was no room to grow, and the voyeuristic thrill of answering someone else’s phone had worn thin. Within a year she had moved to Silicon Valley to take up a job at a data analytics startup in San Francisco. Leaving her business casual skirts and shirts in the wardrobe, she began working in company-branded T-shirts. She had a healthy income for the first time in her life. She felt like part of the future. But a tide was beginning to turn. People were speaking of tech startups as surveillance companies. Out of sixty employees, only eight of her colleagues were women. Casual sexism was rife. Sexual harassment cases were proliferating. And soon, like everyone else, she was addicted to the internet, refreshing the news, refreshing social media, scrolling and scrolling and scrolling. Slowly, she began to realise that her blind faith in ambitious, arrogant young men from America’s soft suburbs wasn’t just her own personal pathology. It had become a global affliction. Uncanny Valley is a coming of age story set against the backdrop of our generation’s very own gold rush. It’s a story about the tension between old and new, between art and tech, between the quest for money and the quest for meaning – about how our world is changing forever.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Anna Wiener
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 07/01/2021
Pagination: 304 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Fourth Estate Ltd
Published By: HarperCollins Publishers
Book Classification: USA
Dimensions: 129 x 197 x 22
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9780008296865

    </details>

THE PHENOMENAL BESTSELLER FROM THE AUTHOR OF WHITE HOLESOne of the Best Books of the 21st Century according to The Guardian'The perfect antidote to the fluff and nonsense around right now. Can we understand its deep texture?Scientist Carlo Rovelli has spent his whole life exploring these questions and pushing the boundaries of what we know. In this mind-expanding book, he shows how our understanding of reality has changed throughout centuries, from Democritus to loop quantum gravity. Taking us on a wondrous journey, he invites us to imagine a whole new world where black holes are waiting to explode, spacetime is made up of grains, and infinity does not exist -- a vast universe still largely undiscovered. Gaia Vince argues that our unique ability - compared with other species - to determine the course of our own destiny rests on a special relationship between our genes, environment and culture going back into deep time. It is our collective culture, rather than our individual intelligence, that makes humans unique. Vince shows how four evolutionary drivers - Fire, Language, Beauty and Time - are further transforming our species into a transcendent superorganism: a hyper-cooperative mass of humanity that she calls Homo omnis. Drawing on leading-edge advances in population genetics, archaeology, palaeontology and neuroscience, Transcendence compels us to reimagine ourselves, showing us to be on the brink of something grander - and potentially more destructive. There is the exacting business of dispatching German troop trains to and from the toppling Eastern front; the problem of ridding himself of his burdensome innocence; and the awesome scandal of Dispatcher Hubicka's gross misuse of the station's official stamps upon the telegraphist's anatomy. Beside these, Milos's part in the plan for the ammunition train seems a simple affair. The ultimate dream of AI is to build machines that are like us: conscious and self-aware. While this remains a remote possibility, rapid progress in AI is already transforming our world. Yet the public debate is still largely centred on unlikely prospects, from sentient machines to dystopian robot takeovers. In this lively and clear-headed guide, Michael Wooldridge challenges the prevailing narrative, revealing how the hype distracts us from both the more immediate risks that this technology poses - from algorithmic bias to fake news - and the true life-changing potential of the field. The Road to Conscious Machines elucidates the discoveries of AI's greatest pioneers from Alan Turing to Demis Hassabis, and what today's researchers actually think and do. 'Nobody understands the past, the present, the promise and the peril of this new technology better than Michael Wooldridge. Sixteen and the son of a coal miner, he makes his way across the northern countryside until he reaches the former smuggling village of Robin Hood’s Bay. There he meets Dulcie, an eccentric, worldly, older woman who lives in a ramshackle cottage facing out to sea. Staying with Dulcie, Robert’s life opens into one of rich food, sea-swimming, sunburn and poetry. The two come from different worlds, yet as the summer months pass, they form an unlikely friendship that will profoundly alter their futures. _______________________An i Book of the YearA Reading Agency Book of the YearA BBC Radio 2 Book Club PickA BBC Radio 4 'Book at Bedtime'An Observer Pick for 2019

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Benjamin Myers
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 05/03/2020
Pagination: 272 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Bloomsbury Publishing PLC
Published By: Bloomsbury Publishing PLC
Book Classification: c 1945 to c 1960
Dimensions: 129 x 198 x 15
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9781526611307

    </details>

*Preorder THE GOOD LIAR to secure the exclusive collectors edition of Denise Mina's latest novel - while stocks last*THE TIMES CRIME NOVEL OF THE YEARSHORTLISTED FOR THE 2020 COSTA NOVEL AWARD'This is crime writing of the highest order' The TimesWhen Margo goes in search of her birth mother for the first time, she meets her aunt, Nikki, instead. In particular, it is the story of Frank Malina, founder of what became Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the scientist who cracked the, as he called it, problem of escape from the Earth by rocket. It's a wild ride. Jack Parsons, Malina's chemistry-expert research partner, was a bed-hopping occultist with delusions of grandeur. We get all the horrible details: drug parties and sex magic, cameos by Aleister Crowley and L Ron Hubbard, and an ill-fated attempt to start a mail-order religion. Armed with hitherto unpublished letters, journals, and documents from the Malina family archives, Fraser MacDonald reveals what we didn't know. Jack Parsons betrayed Frank Malina to the FBI, cooperating fully in their investigation of Malina for un-American activities. The Jet Propulsion Lab's second director secretly denounced Frank as a Communist. Frank's research group had close ties to the spy network of the infamous Rosenbergs - the only Americans executed during the Red Scare. Inside the Brexit echo chamber she is treated with unparalleled contempt. Based on interviews with her colleagues, her political opponents and friends from school and university, as well as extensive archival research, Diane Abbott: The Authorised Biography traces Abbott's path from London, via Cambridge University, through the media and radical politics into Parliament, and then to the top of Jeremy Corbyn's shadow Cabinet.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Robin Bunce
Binding: Hardback
Date of Publication: 24/09/2020
Pagination: 352 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Biteback Publishing
Published By: Biteback Publishing
Book Classification: Biography: historical, political & military
Dimensions: 162 x 241 x 49
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9781785906039

    </details>

'Parry's Victorian Edinburgh comes vividly alive - and it's a world of pain' Val McDermid'Brilliantly conceived, fiendishly plotted' Mick HerronSHORTLISTED FOR THE McILVANNEY PRIZE 2020A Raven and Fisher Mystery: Book 2Edinburgh, 1849. Civilization, we are told, could be achieved only by sacrificing those original freedoms or, alternatively, by taming our baser instincts. David Graeber and David Wengrow show how such theories first emerged in the eighteenth century as a reaction to indigenous critiques of European society, and why they are wrong. In doing so, they overturn our view of human history, including the origins of farming, property, cities, democracy, slavery and civilization itself. Drawing on path-breaking research in archaeology and anthropology, the authors show how history becomes a far more interesting place once we begin to see what's really there. If humans did not spend 95 per cent of their evolutionary past in tiny bands of hunter-gatherers, what were they doing all that time? If agriculture, and cities, did not mean a plunge into hierarchy and domination, then what kinds of social and economic organization did they lead to? The answers are often unexpected, and suggest that the course of history may be less set in stone, and more full of playful possibilities than we tend to assume. The Dawn of Everything fundamentally transforms our understanding of the human past and offers a path toward imagining new forms of freedom, new ways of organizing society. This is a monumental book of formidable intellectual range, animated by curiosity, moral vision and faith in the power of direct action. 'This is not a book. Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. Born a poor black tobacco farmer, her cancer cells – taken without asking her – became a multimillion-dollar industry and one of the most important tools in medicine. Yet Henrietta’s family did not learn of her ‘immortality’ until more than twenty years after her death, with devastating consequences . . . Rebecca Skloot’s moving account is the story of the life, and afterlife, of one woman who changed the medical world forever. In Chernobyl, following the nuclear disaster, only a handful of people returned to their dangerously irradiated homes. On an uninhabited Scottish island, feral cattle live entirely wild. In Detroit, once America’s fourth-largest city, entire streets of houses are falling in on themselves, looters slipping through otherwise silent neighbourhoods. This book explores the extraordinary places where humans no longer live – or survive in tiny, precarious numbers – to give us a possible glimpse of what happens when mankind’s impact on nature is forced to stop. From Tanzanian mountains to the volcanic Caribbean, the forbidden areas of France to the mining regions of Scotland, Flyn brings together some of the most desolate, eerie, ravaged and polluted areas in the world – and shows how, against all odds, they offer our best opportunities for environmental recovery. By turns haunted and hopeful, this luminously written world study is pinned together with profound insight and new ecological discoveries that together map an answer to the big questions: what happens after we’re gone, and how far can our damage to nature be undone? At 51 years old, they still live with their mother, Dot, in rural isolation and poverty. Inside the walls of their old cottage they make music, and in the garden they grow (and sometimes kill) everything they need for sustenance. But when Dot dies suddenly, threats to their livelihood start raining down. Jeanie and Julius would do anything to preserve their small sanctuary against the perils of the outside world, even as their mother's secrets begin to unravel, putting everything they thought they knew about their lives at stake. Unsettled Ground is a powerful novel of betrayal and resilience, love and survival. It is a portrait of life on the fringes of society that explores with dazzling emotional power how we can build our lives on broken foundations, and spin light from darkness. ____________________________________________________________________'The way she writes (with empathy but never sentimentality) moves my heart' ELIZABETH DAY, author of Magpie'A relevant and powerful exploration of isolation and life on the fringes of society' CLARE MACKINTOSH, author of Hostage'An atmospheric thriller that's both heartbreaking and heartwarming' RED

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Claire Fuller
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 06/01/2022
Pagination: 304 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Fig Tree
Published By: Penguin Books Ltd
Book Classification: United Kingdom, Great Britain
Dimensions: 128 x 196 x 27
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9780241457467

    </details>

'I can say with certainty that this man saved my life. Trauma is everywhere and so many of us are silently affected by it. Stressful, challenging and frightening events can happen to anyone, at any age, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, anxious and exhausted. Left unchecked, difficult experiences can have a lasting psychological effect on our wellbeing. In Trauma: The Invisible Epidemic, leading psychiatrist Dr Paul Conti sets out a unique set of tools anyone can access to help recognise the signs of trauma, heal from past hurt and find the road to recovery. Drawing on the most recent scientific research, Dr Conti breaks down the topic into clear sections, looking at why trauma happens, how it manifests in the body and what we can do to move past it. In the book, you'll discover the three different types of trauma you might face, as well as practical exercises and solutions for getting to the root of the problem. Here she tells her story, offering a remarkable view of the music industry from a Black woman’s perspective. Behind the core values of peace, love, unity and respect, dance music is a world of exclusion, misogyny, racism and classism. But, as Paulette reveals, it is also a space bursting at the seams with powerful women. It all started with a book that made me curious. When rare books dealer Rebecca Romney found an emerald clothbound edition of Evelina by Frances Burney, she was happy to discover that she'd stumbled across a novel by one of Jane Austen's favourite authors. Inspired by the connection between the two writers, she returned to Austen's books with a new lens, picking out clues sprinkled throughout her works that pointed to the writers she had admired. Austen read William Shakespeare, John Milton, Daniel Defoe, and Samuel Richardson, all authors Rebecca had read. But Austen also read Frances Burney, Ann Radcliffe, Charlotte Lennox, Hannah More, Charlotte Smith, Elizabeth Inchbald, Hester Piozzi, and Maria Edgeworth, all authors Romney hadn't. These female writers all sat proudly on Austen's bookshelf, but have disappeared from ours. Romney became fascinated with these writers and wanted to answer three important questions: What were the stories behind the lives of these women? Why have they disappeared from our bookshelves? Who wrote them out of history? She had a mission, an obligation: she needed to collect Jane Austen's bookshelf.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Rebecca Romney
Binding: Hardback
Date of Publication: 20/02/2025
Pagination: 464 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Bonnier Books Ltd
Published By: Bonnier Books Ltd
Book Classification: England
Dimensions: 240 x 164 x 40
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9781785124105

    </details>

A timely exploration of Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmann by Booker-shortlisted author Tom McCarthy. Since her untimely death in 1973, Ingeborg Bachmann has come to be regarded as one of the twentieth century’s most important writers. Unpacking a single Bachmann poem, novelist Tom McCarthy latches onto two of its central terms — the eponymous threshold and ledger — and takes off on a line of flight: through the work of Franz Kafka, David Lynch, Anne Carson, Sappho and Shakespeare. Can writing be understood as an experience of the threshold, a limit- or boundary- state? A condition of ecstasy or ec-stasis, standing outside of oneself? With identity ruptured and surpassed, how – and by whom – might such experience be recorded? Appearing on the eve of Bachmann’s centenary year, McCarthy’s book argues for the centrality of her vision to the very act of literature itself. Ingeborg Bachmann (25 June 1926 – 17 October 1973) was an Austrian poet and author. She is regarded as one of the major voices of German-language literature in the 20th century. In 1963, she was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Tom McCarthy
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 09/09/2025
Pagination: 80 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Notting Hill Editions
Published By: Notting Hill Editions
Book Classification: Literature & literary studies
Dimensions: 115 x 175 x 8
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9781912559671

    </details>

'Astonishing . . . an amazing book . . . absolutely chocker full of things that we need to know' Chris Evans'Matthew Walker is probably one of the most influential people on the planet' Evening StandardTHE #1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLERTLS, OBSERVER, SUNDAY TIMES, FT, GUARDIAN, DAILY MAIL AND EVENING STANDARD BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2017Sleep is one of the most important aspects of our life, health and longevity and yet it is increasingly neglected in twenty-first-century society, with devastating consequences: every major disease in the developed world - Alzheimer's, cancer, obesity, diabetes - has very strong causal links to deficient sleep. In this book, the first of its kind written by a scientific expert, Professor Matthew Walker explores twenty years of cutting-edge research to solve the mystery of why sleep matters. 'Startling, vital ... a life-raft' Guardian'A top sleep scientist argues that sleep is more important for our health than diet or exercise' The Times'Passionate, urgent . . . it had a powerful effect on me' Observer

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Matthew Walker
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 04/01/2018
Pagination: 368 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Penguin Books Ltd
Published By: Penguin Books Ltd
Book Classification: Physiological & neuro-psychology, biopsychology
Dimensions: 129 x 197 x 24
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9780141983769

    </details>

*SHORTLISTED FOR THE RNA HISTORICAL ROMANCE AWARD**LONGLISTED FOR THE HIGHLAND BOOK PRIZE*'Desperately romantic, lyrically written and with a fascinating plot' Katie FfordeChrissie Gillies comes from the last ever community to live on the beautiful, isolated Scottish island of St Kilda. The story of Elena and Lila begins in the 1950s in a poor but vibrant neighbourhood on the outskirts of Naples. Growing up on these tough streets the two girls learn to rely on each other ahead of anyone or anything else, as their friendship, beautifully and meticulously rendered, becomes a not always perfect shelter from hardship. Ferrante has created a memorable portrait of two women, but My Brilliant Friend is also the story of a nation. Through the lives of Elena and Lila, Ferrante gives her readers the story of a city and a country undergoing momentous change. “Nothing quite like it has ever been published.”—Guardian“Elena Ferrante has established herself as the foremost writer in Italy—and the world.”—The Sunday Times“This is high stakes, subversive literature.”—The Telegraph

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Elena Ferrante
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 05/03/2020
Pagination: 331 pages
Series: Neapolitan Quartet
Imprint: Europa Editions (UK) Ltd
Published By: Europa Editions (UK) Ltd
Book Classification: Modern & contemporary fiction (post c 1945)
Dimensions: 129 x 197 x 23
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9781787702226

    </details>

One of the most influential books of the 21st century: the ground-breaking psychology classic - over 10 million copies sold - that changed the way we think about thinking'There have been many good books on human rationality and irrationality, but only one masterpiece. That masterpiece is Thinking, Fast and Slow' Financial Times'A lifetime's worth of wisdom' Steven D. Levitt, co-author of FreakonomicsWhy do we make the decisions we do? Nobel Prize winner Daniel Kahneman revolutionised our understanding of human behaviour with Thinking, Fast and Slow. Distilling his life's work, Kahneman showed that there are two ways we make choices: fast, intuitive thinking, and slow, rational thinking. His book reveals how our minds are tripped up by error, bias and prejudice (even when we think we are being logical) and gives practical techniques that enable us all to improve our decision-making. This profound exploration of the marvels and limitations of the human mind has had a lasting impact on how we see ourselves. The promise of starting life anew somewhere far, far away - no climate change, no war, no Twitter - beckons, and settling the stars finally seems within our grasp. Or is it? Bestselling authors Kelly and Zach Weinersmith set out to write the essential guide to a glorious future of space settlements, but after years of original research, and interviews with leading space scientists, engineers and legal experts, they aren't so sure it's a good idea. Space tech and space business are progressing fast, but we lack the deep knowledge needed to have space-kids, build space-farms and create space nations in a way that doesn't spark conflict back home. In a world hurtling toward human expansion into space, A City on Mars investigates whether the dream of new worlds won't create a nightmare, both for settlers and the people they leave behind. With deep expertise, a winning sense of humour and art from the beloved creator of Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal, the Weinersmiths investigate perhaps the biggest questions humanity will ever ask itself - whether and how to become multiplanetary.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Dr.Kelly Weinersmith
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 10/10/2024
Pagination: 448 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Penguin Books Ltd
Published By: Penguin Books Ltd
Book Classification: Popular astronomy & space
Dimensions: 128 x 198 x 28
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9780141993300

    </details>

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0568/2180/9347/files/9780141993270_375f955c-9c91-45c2-9cc4-2f619e7ad178.jpg?v=1758363425
9780349427621
Blood : The science, medicine and mythology of menstruation

FROM THE NO. 1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR*, ELSIE SILVER! But unfortunately for me, he's also my ex-boyfriend's dad. A chance meeting brought us together and a missed connection has kept us apart. One year later, a stroke of fate has us living under the same roof-which makes everything between us downright messy. Because even after all this time, he's still the man I think about when I fall asleep. The one I can't get over no matter how hard I try. He's working on mending a fragile relationship with his son and we both know acting on these urges would be the ultimate betrayal. But I see the heat in his eyes. That look of need that never fails to send a shiver down my spine. The mutual longing is borderline unbearable and the simmering heat between us is downright palpable. Fascinating, innovative and thought provoking: I thoroughly recommend Ways of Being' Dr Jane Goodall, DBERecent years have seen rapid advances in 'artificial' intelligence, which increasingly appears to be something stranger than we ever imagined. At the same time, we are becoming more aware of the other intelligences which have been with us all along, unrecognized. These other beings are the animals, plants, and natural systems that surround us, and are slowly revealing their complexity and knowledge - just as the new technologies we've built are threatening to cause their extinction, and ours. In Ways of Being, writer and artist James Bridle considers the fascinating, uncanny and multiple ways of existing on earth. What can we learn from these other forms of intelligence and personhood, and how can we change our societies to live more equitably with one another and the non-human world? From Greek oracles to octopuses, forests to satellites, Bridle tells a radical new story about ecology, technology and intelligence. We must, they argue, expand our definition of these terms to build a meaningful and free relationship with the non-human, one based on solidarity and cognitive diversity. We have so much to learn, and many worlds to gain.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: James Bridle
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 30/03/2023
Pagination: 384 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Penguin Books Ltd
Published By: Penguin Books Ltd
Book Classification: Cognitive science, [JFFR] Social forecasting, future studies, [PDR] Impact of science & techno
Dimensions: 128 x 198 x 25
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9780141994260

    </details>

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0568/2180/9347/files/9780141993300_5981af55-63ea-44d4-8049-128d34e3b0f7.jpg?v=1758358534
9781529346107
Starborn : How the Stars Made Us - and Who We Would Be Without Them

?THE WORD-OF-MOUTH PHENOMENON?'Intelligent, moving and darkly comic . . . taking us deftly from serious explorations of trauma to riotously funny scenes of modern life' The Sunday Times'Haunting and hilarious' Daily Mail'A brilliant debut' Cariad Lloyd'Full of heart, wit and feeling' Caroline O'Donoghue'I loved it!' the old forces of nature that transformed Earth many millions of years ago are joined by another: us. Our actions have driven Earth into a new geological epoch, the Anthropocene. For the first time in our home planet's 4.5-billion year history a single species is dictating Earth's future. To some the Anthropocene symbolises a future of superlative control of our environment. To others it is the height of hubris, the illusion of our mastery over nature. Whatever your view, just below the surface of this odd-sounding scientific word, the Anthropocene, is a heady mix of science, philosophy, religion and politics linked to our deepest fears and utopian visions. Tracing our environmental impact through time to reveal when humans began to dominate Earth, scientists Simon Lewis and Mark Maslin masterfully show what the new epoch means for all of us.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Simon Lewis
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 07/06/2018
Pagination: 480 pages
Series: Pelican Books
Imprint: Pelican
Published By: Penguin Books Ltd
Book Classification: Historical geography
Dimensions: 184 x 146 x 23
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9780241280881

    </details>

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0568/2180/9347/files/9780241258767_2918735c-9677-4ab5-9ed7-022d4574046d.jpg?v=1758369513
9781786788467
Time Expansion Experiences : The Psychology of Time Perception and the Illusion of Linear Time

SHORTLISTED FOR SALTIRE FICTION BOOK OF THE YEAR, 2017LONGLISTED FOR THE EDGE HILL PRIZE, 2018A local tries to sell his sister to a trucker as he passes through town; a couple put their children to bed and hear a loud scratching at the wall; a man looks into a mirror and reflects on becoming more like his father. Rovelli is a wonderfully humane, gentle and witty guide for he is as much philosopher and poet as he is a scientist' John Banville'We are time. We are this space, this clearing opened by the traces of memory inside the connections between our neurons. We are memory. We are nostalgia. We are longing for a future that will not come'Time is a mystery that does not cease to puzzle us. Philosophers, artists and poets have long explored its meaning while scientists have found that its structure is different from the simple intuition we have of it. From Boltzmann to quantum theory, from Einstein to loop quantum gravity, our understanding of time has been undergoing radical transformations. Time flows at a different speed in different places, the past and the future differ far less than we might think, and the very notion of the present evaporates in the vast universe. With his extraordinary charm and sense of wonder, bringing together science, philosophy and art, Carlo Rovelli unravels this mystery. Enlightening and consoling, The Order of Time shows that to understand ourselves we need to reflect on time -- and to understand time we need to reflect on ourselves. As the narrator moves from Texas to Times Square and then on to the French Quarter of New Orleans, Rechy delivers a portrait of the edges of America that has lost none of its power. On his travels, the nameless narrator meets a collection of unforgettable characters, from vice cops to guilt-ridden married men eaten up by desire, to Lance O'Hara, once Hollywood's biggest star. Rechy describes this world with candour and understanding in a prose that is highly personal and vividly descriptive.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: John Rechy
Binding: Paperback
Date of Publication: 20/05/2021
Pagination: 480 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Serpent's Tail
Published By: Profile Books Ltd
Book Classification: Of specific Gay interest
Dimensions: 137 x 197 x 36
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9781788166713

    </details>

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0568/2180/9347/files/9781788164627_db17a759-41bd-46fa-8975-b2b6d5e204cd.jpg?v=1758365922
9781526679369
ADHD Unpacked : From the hosts of The ADHD Adults Podcast

_______________'A richly woven novel … The voice that guides us around this world darts with wit and lightness in a way that is unique and often lovely' - Rana Dasgupta, Guardian'The plot gallops along, ensuring a gripping read … thought-provoking' - Independent'A highly accomplished novel … A multi-layered but shrewdly simple tale' - New Statesman, Books of the Year_______________BY THE ACCLAIMED WINNER OF THE WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTIONWhen I can bear no more of separation, when I have learnt all that absence can teach me of desire, the walls will shimmer and I will step out of the mirage, into your arms. Set in 1842, this novel foregrounds a Haiti that is grappling with the weight of an onerous debt imposed by France, forcing its citizens to pay reparations to French colonists in exchange for diplomatic recognition of the first Black republic of the Americas. In the town of Boën, a prosperous notary, Ludovic Possible, decides to take a bold step to secure the future of his community. He opens a schoolhouse where local children can learn both artisanal skills and the essential ability to read and write. For Ludovic, education represents the best chance for the people of Boën to rise above their hardships and build a prosperous future—especially for Aïda, a quiet and enigmatic girl whose mother’s marvelous stories captivate him. The tranquility of Boën is soon shattered, however, by a series of duels that pit families, neighbors, and even animals against each other. As tensions rise, Ludovic’s vision for a better future is threatened by the escalating violence. In Duels, Néhémy Pierre-Dahomey introduces readers to a rich and unforgettable cast of characters—Aïda, Ludovic, Balthazar Possible, Pépé the Tempest, and many others—who find themselves at the crossroads of a nation on the brink of transformative change.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Nehemy Dahomey
Binding: Hardback
Date of Publication: 15/01/2026
Pagination: 180 pages
Series: The French List
Imprint: Seagull Books London Ltd
Published By: Seagull Books London Ltd
Book Classification: Modern & contemporary fiction (post c 1945)
Dimensions: 229 x 152
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9781803095592

    </details>

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0568/2180/9347/files/9781802063042_ebe7e355-1d1b-400a-be37-f5a1ce17fb97.jpg?v=1758359523
9781529097320
Code Dependent : Living in the Shadow of AI

____________Sequel to the Sunday Times bestselling and Lodestar award-nominated A Deadly Education'The dark school of magic I have been waiting for' Katherine Arden, author of The Bear and the Nightingale'Fantasy that delights on every level' Stephanie Garber, author of Caraval____________Return to the Scholomance - and face an even deadlier graduation - in the stunning sequel to the ground-breaking, Sunday Times bestselling A Deadly Education. But as the spectre of graduation looms -- the deadly final ritual that leaves few students alive -- if she and her allies are to make it out, El will need to realise that sometimes winning the game means throwing out all the rules. _______________________________Wry, witty, endlessly inventive, and mordantly funny -- yet with a true depth and fierce justice at its heart -- this enchanting novel reminds us that there are far more important things than mere survival.

     <details id="Details-collapsible_tab_dDVEeR-template--25151688147283__main">

       Product Information

Author: Naomi Novik
Binding: Hardback
Date of Publication: 28/09/2021
Pagination: 400 pages
Series: N/A
Imprint: Del Rey
Published By: Cornerstone
Book Classification: Science fiction
Dimensions: 240 x 162
ISBN13/EAN/SKU: 9781529100884

    </details>

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0568/2180/9347/files/9781529097320_de8b570f-9945-4478-b473-08eac933743a.jpg?v=1758361037
