Voices Against Putin's War with Dr Simon Pirani & Fellow Readers | 27th May @ 7pm

Organised in conjunction with The Ukraine Solidarity Campaign & Resistance Books, please join us to mark the publication of Voices against Putin's War: Protesters’ defiant speeches in Russian courts.

This book comprises ten speeches in court by people who opposed Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, and were arrested, tried and handed long jail sentences for doing so. There are also letters and interviews in which they made their case; two statements, made outside court, by other protesters who went on trial; a summary of 17 other anti-war protesters’ speeches in Russian courts; and a chapter on resistance in the occupied territories of Ukraine, and in Russia, and the reaction by the Kremlin’s repressive machine. 

On the night we will have a talk with the editor, Dr Simon Pirani as well as readings from the collection and a Q&A.

Simon is the author of Burning Up: A Global History of Fossil Fuel Consumption and Change in Putin’s Russia: Power, Money and People both from Pluto Press, The Russian Revolution in Retreat 1920-24: Soviet workers and the new communist elite from Routledge.
